Can I Stream in Airplane Mode?
On this page
Yes, you can stream in Airplane Mode, but you will have to use Wi-Fi. EventLive needs an internet connection to live stream, and Airplane Mode turns off mobile data. After you turn on Airplane Mode, turn Wi-Fi back on and make sure the phone is connected to the internet.
We recommend putting the phone in Do Not Disturb mode for the duration of the stream. It silences calls, texts, notifications and vibrations.
How to Stream in Airplane Mode
- Turn on Airplane Mode.
- Turn Wi-Fi back on and connect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Check that the phone is connected to the internet, for example by opening a website.
- Turn on Do Not Disturb.
- Open the EventLive app and go live.
On iPhone: open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner, or up from the bottom on iPhones with a Home button). Tap the airplane icon, then tap the Wi-Fi icon to turn Wi-Fi back on. For Do Not Disturb, tap Focus and choose Do Not Disturb.
On Android: swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings. Tap Airplane mode, then tap Wi-Fi to turn it back on. Tap Do Not Disturb in the same menu (you may need to swipe to find it).
Why Use Do Not Disturb Too
Airplane Mode stops regular calls and texts, but calls and messages that come over Wi-Fi can still arrive, such as Wi-Fi Calling, FaceTime, iMessage and WhatsApp. Do Not Disturb silences those as well.
If you don't want to use Airplane Mode, Do Not Disturb on its own is enough to keep calls and notifications from interrupting you.
While You Are Live
- Keep the EventLive app open.
- Don't answer calls or tap notifications. Leaving the app can stop the stream. See What Happens If You Receive a Phone Call During a Livestream on iPhone?
- Calls and notifications don't show on your live stream. Viewers only see the video from your camera.
Good to Know
- In Airplane Mode the phone can't switch to mobile data if the Wi-Fi drops. If the Wi-Fi at your venue is weak, streaming on mobile data with Do Not Disturb turned on may work better. See How to Use Mobile Data for Streaming.
- Airplane Mode can also turn off Bluetooth. If you use a Bluetooth microphone, check that it's still connected before you go live.
- On iPhone, Do Not Disturb may still let calls from your Favorites and repeated calls ring through. You can change this in Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb.
