How to Use an External Microphone with the EventLive App
On this page
An external microphone can improve the sound of your EventLive stream, especially when the speaker is away from the phone. Use a microphone or wireless receiver that your phone recognizes as an audio input, and test the exact combination before the event.
Choose the connection
A wired microphone can connect through a supported audio port or adapter. A wireless microphone usually has a receiver that plugs into the phone: that is different from pairing a microphone directly over Bluetooth. Do not assume a Bluetooth connection will supply the stream’s audio.
Compatibility depends on the phone, microphone, receiver, cable and adapter. Systems such as Rode Wireless GO and DJI microphones have different versions and connection requirements; confirm your model and test before relying on it. Our microphone guide provides further options to investigate.
Connect and test
- Charge the microphone and receiver, then turn both on where applicable.
- Connect the microphone or receiver firmly using an appropriate audio adapter.
- Open EventLive and allow microphone access when requested.
- Select Test Live, speak into the microphone, and check the audio from another device using headphones.
- Test at the distance and position you expect to use during the event. Outdoor use may need wind protection.
If you hear no sound
- Check power, mute switches, transmitter/receiver pairing and the phone connection.
- During a test, reconnect the receiver. If necessary, open the streaming screen first and then reconnect it.
- Check microphone permission in the phone’s settings.
- Try the microphone in the phone’s camera app and, if possible, another device to help isolate the issue.
- Restart the app during rehearsal if necessary. Avoid restarting or unplugging equipment during a live event unless you are prepared for an interruption.
Mute the viewing device or use headphones to prevent feedback. Set up and rehearse before guests arrive so you can hear problems early.
