# How To Use Chrome or Safari for Built-In Closed Captioning

If you need automatic captions while watching, your browser or device may be able to transcribe the audio. This is separate from captions supplied with a video.

## Chrome on a computer

In Chrome, open **Settings → Accessibility → Live Caption**. Follow the language and setup options available on your device. Chrome supports multiple languages; availability can change, so check [Google’s current caption instructions](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/10538231?hl=en).

## Watching in Safari on a Mac

On supported Macs, use macOS **System Settings → Accessibility → Live Captions** to caption computer audio. This is an operating-system feature, not the same as enabling a video’s existing subtitle track. Hardware, language and region requirements apply; see [Apple’s Live Captions instructions](https://support.apple.com/en-mo/guide/mac-help/mchldd11f4fd/mac).

## Before relying on captions

Test the feature with the device and language you plan to use. Automatic captions can contain mistakes and their availability and accuracy are controlled by the browser or device provider. If you cannot find the option, check that provider’s current requirements.
