# How to enable HDMI output on a camera

Follow these steps to enable HDMI output on your camera for live streaming with EventLive.

### Step 1: Check if Your Camera Has Clean HDMI Output

- A "clean HDMI output" means the video signal from your camera does not show camera controls, focus boxes, or other overlays.
- If your camera does not have clean HDMI, all the camera controls and info will appear on your livestream.
- Some cameras, like the Canon EOS 60D and Canon EOS Rebel T6, do **not** have clean HDMI output. You may need to test your camera to see what appears on the HDMI feed.

**Important:** If your camera does not have clean HDMI, your viewers will see all the on-screen info from your camera.

### Step 2: Connect Your Camera to Your Streaming Device

- Use an HDMI cable to connect your camera to your computer or streaming device.
- In most cases, you will need an HDMI capture card (like Elgato Camlink 4K) to connect the camera to your computer.

### Step 3: Set Up Your Streaming Software

- Open your streaming software (for example, [OBS Studio](https://obsproject.com/)).
- Add a new Video Capture Device and select your camera (or the capture card) from the list.
- If you do not see video, double-check the connection and try adding the Video Capture Device again.

### Step 4: Adjust Camera Settings

- Make sure your camera is set to video mode.
- If your camera allows, turn off all on-screen displays (like focus boxes, battery info, etc.) for a clean HDMI output.
- Some cameras have a menu option to disable these overlays. Check your camera’s manual for details.

### Troubleshooting Tips

- If you have audio but no video, check the HDMI connection and make sure the camera is in video mode.
- If your camera does not appear in OBS or your streaming software, unplug and reconnect the capture card, then add the Video Capture Device again.
- If you see camera controls or overlays on your stream, your camera may not support clean HDMI output.

### Important Notes

- Not all cameras support clean HDMI output. You may need to test your camera to see what appears on the HDMI feed.
- Some camcorders and cameras work with a direct HDMI connection, but many require a capture card to transfer video to your computer.
